Are you among those tanglers who always felt a bit uneasy around black tiles? I was one of them, too, so I was happy to have finally found a lovely method that yields awesome results.

This is a unique combination of two video classes and a single live online class, where I will combine supplies and techniques to help you master them.

In the two videos, I'll guide you through finishing two projects:

Glow on Black Mosaic (11 videos, total length 1h 46m)
Tranzending on Black (9 videos, total lenth 1h 26m)

You will get unlimited access to both videos.

In the live online class that will follow after you have some time to finish the video classes, we'll work on another project with the same supplies and also have a chance to comment, discuss, ask and answer questions. I see this as an opportunity to exchange experiences and advices on supplies and techniques more than as a typical instructional class.

Supplies

black square paper tile
black round paper tile (Zendala)
0.7 bullet shape black and white Posca pen (a thicker Micron pen, like PN or 05-08 or Pigma 05 and a white Gelly Roll 10 can be used instead)
Gelly Roll - gold Metallic and white 08 and 10
pastel pencils (I use turquoise, violet, yellow, orange, blue)
color pencils (various shades of colors listed under pastel pencils and gold/copper pencil)
white charcoal and color pencil
blending stumps

A note on supplies:

PASTEL PENCILS: I'm using Conte a Paris pastel pencils. I've also tried other brands and they all work fine, but I prefer Conte a Paris for this particular task as they are really soft and vivid. Try using whichever pastel pencils you have on black paper and blend them with a paper stump into the background. I experimented with each brand I own and found that they all can look beautiful - see the video below.
PAPER: I strongly recommend using original Zentangle's tiles for these projects. The structure of the paper surface is great for pastels. If you would like to do this with another sort of paper, try getting some pastel paper. It is really important that the paper has some tooth - smooth surfaces will not hold enough pigment and colors will not look vivid.
PENS: As mentioned in the above list, I really love using Posca pens for this particular task. They work on all surfaces and tangling with them is smooth and quick. You can use Microns, as well, just not the thin nibs as they will get clogged really soon and they don't produce bold enough lines. Poscas are widely available and affordable so getting a PC-1MC 0.7 (bullet shape) black and white pens is the best option.
