Valentine's Day Tangled Card

Create unique Zentangle-inspired cards for your loved ones, whether it's for Valentine's day or any special occasion. Learn how I use watercolor pencils for shading and draw shiny pearls. This video class consists of 13 video lessons (total length 1h 46m) and an eBook as a convenient future reference.
Are you done with giving your loved ones store-bought cards? Would you like to make them feel special by creating a unique card for them? Whether it's for the Valentine's Day, a birthday or any other special occasion, this class might be for you.

I will guide you through the process of creating an elegant card with Zentangle-inspired elements. The experience is based on the Zentangle method, promoting the no-mistakes attitude and relaxing and playful approach to art making.

You will learn how to:
  • tangle with ease and confidence
  • use a craft knife to cut out shapes
  • create convex shapes in paper
  • shade with watercolor pencils and highlight to make the shapes pop
  • easily draw beautiful pearl beads
  • relax and enjoy the creative process.
This video class consists of 13 lessons (total length 1h 46m) that break the process in bite-sized steps. You will also get a downloadable and printable PDF document with step-outs and additional examples.

As a bonus, I will show you how to draw a teddy bear that's holding a heart-shaped balloon, if you want to incorporate a little bit of cuteness on the back part of the card.

Supplies

I recommend using the following supplies:
  • two square paper tiles (I use the original Zentangle’s Renaissance tiles)
  • black pen of your choice, such as Micron 01 or PN
  • a colored pen of choice (burgundy, brown or alternative) – I use a Copic Multiliner 03 and 05 in wine color
  • watercolor pencils in at least two colors (black for shading and a color that matches your colored pen) I use Albrecht Durer pencils by Faber-Castell, black and red-violet
  • thin water brush
  • white Gelly Roll 05 and 10 and a gold metallic Gelly Roll
  • white charcoal pencil and a blending stump
  • a small spoon or a tool with convex shape
  • gold watercolor or gouache and a brush of your choice (I use Coliro’s Arabian Gold watercolor)
  • a craft knife
  • black brush pen (optional)
You can choose any color you like or multiple colors. If you lack any of the mentioned supplies, just use what you have and have fun.
Get inspired to create additional designs and learn to draw an adorable teddy bear, holding the heart-shaped balloon.
